Wayside is a condensed, fleeting road adventure across Ireland from Wexford through to the well trodden lands of Ireland’s Atlantic coastline. Feeling incapable of documenting such unbridled beauty, Pannell remarks on the relationship between the built and the natural in small town Ireland, and at the same time contrasts these scenes with familiar everyday scenes of human connection and mutual admiration of the surrounding beauty. A brief journey, via famous landmarks, with intentional diversions. The tension between nature’s unrelenting ferocity and the human-made elements which force themselves onto the landscape are what drive Wayside.
