The word ‘Ertussenuit’ has no direct English translation. It is a phrase that roughly means ‘a day out’. And so we go out for the day with Sjoerd Knibbeler as our guide. This is a stroll through the zoos, spas, pools and paintball parks of the Netherlands where blue skies are murals and the trees have buttons. Ertussenuit is a collection of photographs from parks, museums, and recreational arenas and gives us backstage access into the production of contemporary Dutch amusement.

About the Artist
The work of Sjoerd Knibbeler (b. 1981) focuses on visualizing invisible natural phenomena such as the wind, air movement and climatological conditions. Knibbeler creates a world that follows his own logic, where associative relationships and imagination play a key part. He is inspired by subjects such as flying, airplanes, aerodynamics and climatology.

About the Publisher
The Eriskay Connection is a Dutch studio for book design and an independent publisher of art books at the intersection of photography, research, social issues and science. They are working on storytelling projects with photographers, artists and writers. Their authors examine relevant social matters, expose histories, elaborate visual studies, change perspectives or give directions to their view on the future. And by doing so they provide new and necessary insights into the world around us. The key for Eriskay is to convey what makes a story unique, through high quality editing and design. Editions are mainly offset printed and bound in The Netherlands and we strive to work with local producers as much as possible.
