Memorials is inspired by the artist´s interest in the experience of memory as a way of questioning and examining our relationship with the past and the writing of history. For Bleda y Rosa, this relationship is complex and problematic, because it inevitably reveals discrepancies, oversight, exaggerations and contradictions.

In total, the work is made up of twenty-three images arranged in three groups, each focused on one of three cities: Berlin, Jerusalem and Washington. They are three cities, capitals, which are profoundly marked by their past.

Begining in 1992 with Campos de Fútbol, Bleda y Rosa (María Bleda, Castellón, 1969; José María Rosa, Älbacete, 1970) have developed an artistic path of marked singularity and coherence through a photographic practice which draws on the genres of landscape and architectural and topographical representation.

About the Artists
María Bleda (Castellón, 1969) and José María Rosa (Albacete, 1970) are a Spanish Artist duo. The fundamental core of their work is the representation of the territory, with which they seek to highlight the complex intersection of cultures and times that make it up. In this way, they transform the landscape genre into images with a high power of evocation, where their own experience of the places they photograph is manifested. The residue of time, traces and memory are the intangible elements that build his works. Throughout compact and outstanding series such as “Football Fields”, “Battle Fields”, “Cities” and “Origin”, Bleda and Rosa have consolidated a proposal that records the latent history that inhabits spaces, a past that they explore by activating our imagination and our memory. His career has become more complex through the progressive incorporation in his work of a profound reflection on the construction of the photographic space and the relationship between nature and culture.
