In this collection of crisp colour photographs inspired by cultural theorist Walter Benjamin’s Berliner Kindheit um 1900 (Berlin Childhood in 1990), Aura Rosenberg documents the first few years of her daughter’s life and translates Benjamin’s remembrance into a new narrative focused on the year 2000. Following the structure of the original book, in which Benjamin identified 42 essential elements of a childhood spent in Berlin in 1900, Rosenberg visits places described by Benjamin, and discovers parallels with her daughter’s experience. She also cites Benjamin, confronting the passages of his text with her own photographs and impressions.
