Over the past four decades, landscape has become one of the major issues of contemporary photography. This publication supplements a cycle of exhibitions dedicated to those decisive European and American approaches. Drawing from the French public collections, these exhibitions dealt with several aspects of the subject that the following essay examines and synthetises, in order to reveal the depth of the formal and conceptual renewal.
Art historian and curator, Christine Ollier founded in 1996 the gallery Les Filles du Calvaire with the businessman Stéphane Magnan. One of the most important places in the field of photography in Paris, the gallery represents major artists including Antoine D’Agata, Paul Graham or Gilbert Garcin (exposed this year as part of the Rencontres d’Arles).
