In I’ve Lived in East London for 86 ½ Years Usborne explores Markovitch’s life through a series of photographic portraits shot around the area, his voice resonating through selected quotes that comment on his long life and perception of the neighbourhood.
Joseph Markovitch has left London only once to go to the seaside with his mother. He loves Nicolas Cage, has five sugars in his tea, would have married a six foot two Hispanic woman but in the end had bad chest catarrh and never had a girlfriend.
About the Artist
Martin Usborne lives and works in London. His key interest is man’s relationship to (other) animals. Although his imagery is sometimes dark – capturing the way in which we silence, control or distance ourselves from other animals – his pictures strive for a subtle humour.
