Stage photographer/designer Leocampo Yuen spent more than a year lingering in the backstage areas of theatres in Hong Kong to take portraits of 41 theatrical heroes. Each black-and-white image offers a unique visual evocation of the unmistakable atmosphere of theatre, and an insight to the effort and professionalism of the ‘elite of the stage’. Among those portrayed are Ringo Chan, Louis Yu, Chan Ping Chiu, and Yan Ming Wai.
About the Artist:
Leocampo Yuen graduated from The Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts (HKAPA) with a Bachelor of Fine Arts Degree, majoring in Set and Costume Design. He received a Best Costume Design Award from the Hong Kong Drama Awards for his work in The Good Person of Szechwan. Currently working as a freelance stage artist-photographer, Hon’s photography is widely seen in theatrical publications and other related media. With Cheung Chi Wai and others, he also co-founded the ‘Popa-Gala’ online theatrical photography archive.
