The last book of the most famous French semiotician, Roland Barthes (1915–1980), is a remarkable text about photography, in which he goes beyond the semiotic starting points of his older texts, and the phenomenon of photography becomes his stimulus not only for a change in methodology, but, above all, for a deeper philosophical reflection. Camera Lucida: Reflections on Photography (La chambre claire. Note sur la photographie, 1980) belongs to the basic works of the theory of photography, together with books by Susan Sontag, John Berger, Vilém Flusser and others, it sparked a new interest in photography as a cultural phenomenon in the early 1980s.

This book is a Czech translation of Barthes’ Camera Lucida: Reflections on Photography.
