This oversize artist’s book, published on the occasion of Katja Stuke’s 2010 exhibition at Loris Gallery in Berlin, features thirteen color portraits of various unnamed Olympic athletes from 2000-2008. Taken through the raster of the television screen, the photographic portraits capture the moment immediately before a performance or competition, when the athlete’s expression reflects a completely unselfconscious focus and concentration on the task at hand. Each image is accompanied by a caption providing the year and location of its Olympic source and is printed on an unbound folded broadsheet.

About the Artist
Katja Stuke (b. 1968) is a German artist. She lives and works in Düsseldorf. Together with Oliver Sieber she covers an extensive range of personas: photographers and artists, curators and exhibition organisers, designers and art book editors. Yet as they move through their photographic cosmos, it is not always so easy to determine where one identity ends and the other begins. Regardless, in their works and activities as artists and art facilitators they have long since become moderators of a very specific photographic culture.
