Writers often write their words in selected places. Most write in many random places, very few work throughout their lives in the same place. Writing sites, you could call them. Karen Blixen is one of very few authors who has two geographical locations inextricably linked to her name: Kenya and Denmark. Both places are life-giving sources for her work. Both places have left their mark directly and indirectly in the books, but virtually all of her literary work was created in the study at Rungstedlund. It became her place – the place of writing.

The book’s author Marianne Wirenfeldt Asmussen, together with photographer Kurt Rodahl Hoppe, has visited all the places, all the details in Karen Blixen’s houses in Kenya and Denmark, and thus seeks to uncover and enforce the places’ significance, uniqueness and beauty. Occasionally, the new color images are brought into dialogue with old black-and-white photographs from the time Blixen was there, or they are in some places accompanied by quotes from the authorship.

About the Publisher
The publishing house Wunderbuch was founded by publisher and historian of ideas Klaus Gjørup. Attached to the publishing house is an advisory committee consisting of the publisher and prominent researchers, writers and artists.

The genres vary between photo and art books, fiction, poetry, philosophy and the history of ideas. Both Danish and translated titles. The publisher does not want to deceive readers that there are shortcuts to complicated topics. Commercial keys must not impede quality. Sometimes reading requires patience and hard work, other times it is more straightforward.
