The result of a collaboration between LaMétive, a place of residence located in the Creuse, and the Poursuite editions, Residences is a collective work bringing together the 4 works carried out by Camille Hervouet, Valentine Vermeil, Nicolas Frémiot and Yannick Labrousse between 2008 and 2009 during their stay in Moutier d’Ahun.

The most beautiful photographic commissions are akin to the conquest of sites, lands, monuments, communities, as many places closer to virgin land than to the teeming megalopolis. And the men and women, who sometimes appear on the images are anchored in their landscape, they are like roots, far from the cities where city dwellers run, bustle, ignore each other. You have to keep this climate in mind when you discover the workby Nicolas Fremiot, Camille Hervouet, Yannick Labrousse and Valentine Vermeil. These four photographers spent several weeks, in 2008 and 2009, in a village in Creuse, Moutier d’Ahun, 173 inhabitants. Welcomed in residence within the LaMétive association, they multiplied the escapades around, took the side roads, to give the feeling of a rural country with flexible borders and to translate the spirit of those who animate it. This book illustrates nothing, demonstrates nothing, but it helps to perceive, to feel, to dream, to appropriate. It combines four artistic experiences, which together define a spirit of resistance, both photographic and political, a spirit that refers to other collective experiences of the past while registering in a very current method of making images.
