This photobook was created as a companion for the 7th November 1992 to 10th January 1993 retrospective exhibition of James Nachtwey’s photography for the first time in Europe at the Hasselblad Centre in Göteborg, Sweden. This book collects Nachtwey’s documentary photography from the 1980s and 1990s taken in war-torn places such as Guatemala, Northern Ireland, Poland, Romania, Russia, Palestine and Nicaragua. Nachtwey’s photographs focus on the trauma and damage inflicted on the lives of civilians within war-zones.

About the Artist
James Nachtwey (born 1948) is an American photojournalist who has been documenting war-torn areas for decades. An associate of the Bang-Bang Club, Nachtwey has worked for both newspapers such as Time as well as photo-agencies.
