Day X is a series of 5 publications, each featuring a one-day collaboration between a writer and a photographer working in Europe.

Book No.3 : In the series author Marie Gamillscheg and photographer Laura Braun, spent the 25th of March of this year, the 60th birthday of the European Union in the village that currently hosts the union’s centre: Westerngrund, Unterfranken, Germany. Day X / Westerngrund charts their search for a middle and it’s meaning.

About the Artists
Laura Braun is a German-born freelance photographer based in Berlin and London. She studied art, design, photography and sociology at Central St. Martin’s and Goldsmiths college and has since worked for editorial and commercial clients as well as exhibited her personal work in the UK and Internationally. In her documentary photography Laura focuses on people and their relationship with their everyday environment and has developed a particular interest in people at work. She takes a warm and human approach to her subjects and brings a calm aesthetic to her studio and location portraits. Clients include: Action for Children, Kinfolk Magazine, Land Securities, Lucky Peach Magazine, Monocle Magazine, The Telegraph Magazine, The Photographer’s Gallery, London, Universal, Wedgewoo.

Marie Gamillscheg, born in Graz in 1992, lives in Berlin as a freelance author. Publications in numerous literary journals and magazines. Her novel “Alles was glänzt” landed on the ORF best list, was nominated for the retained literature prize and was awarded the Austrian Book Prize for the best debut in 2018.
