Gwon Osang explores philosophical meaning of imagery and the reality through his experimental art works that is synthesis of photograph and sculpture. His work, termed as ‘photo-sculpture,’ is three dimensional photo-collage of the subject after whose photographs are taken from various angles. This work is considered as refinance against classical casted sculptures and its weight both literally and metaphorically in terms of the weight of a tradition. Despite the lightness of his sculpture, detailed expression of the subject achieved through photographs creates illusion that betrays physically shallow surface of the material. His work raises important issues in sculpture: reality and representation of an image suggesting new definition of sculpture.
