In Javanese, “landep” means “sharp.”

Photographer Yoese Mariam revisits a memory from an event that took place a quarter of a century ago and a forbidden room where his father kept his old keris (a traditional Javanese dagger).

This becomes a starting point in the artist’s journey to get to know and understand the cultural heritage of the keris and where it stands within the Javanese tradition. Cities that have ties with the keris – Surakarta, Salatiga, Yogyakarta, Sumenep, and villages in Bali are also explored.

A keris determined the fate of the artist’s family and Landep is also a personal journey to make peace with the complications of the past.
