Go home Polish documents Michal Iwanowski’s 1,900 walk from Wales to Poland in search of a definition of ‘home’ in post-Brexit Europe.

‘Responding to a xenophobic slogan, which spelled ‘go home Polish,’ on a wall in Cardiff, UK, I embarked on a three-month long walk from my home in Wales, to the place of my birth in Poland. My aim was to ask people along the way about their ideas of home, so that I could understand my own position at the intersection between being an immigrant and a citizen, in a politically unstable climate of post Brexit Europe. I photographed and I wrote extensively along the way between Wales, England, France, Belgium, The Netherlands, Germany, Czechia and Poland. Since completing the walk, I have exhibited the photographs in a number of solo and group shows, but the written account of the people and stories is yet to be shared – hence why I feel making this book is very important. It will not only complete the Go home Polish project, but also make it available to wider audiences, outside of the gallery space.’ – Michal Iwanoswki.

Epilogue by Aleksandra Lun, translated from the Spanish by Tim Welch. Designed by Olga Lacna. Cover image by Lynsey Smith. Text editing by Emma Geliot. Colour separation by Tomasz Kubaczyk.
