This is the first of 2 books by Pierce who began photographing Sheriff Street, a working-class neighbourhood by the docks beset by poverty, crime, and drugs. By the ‘80s Sheriff Street had made its name as a no-go area for police. When I was there they were moving families out and the kids played in the broken window frames of the vacant flats.

Note: There are three copies of this zine in the PhotoIreland Collection – two copies of the 2020 edition and one from the 2022.

Colm Pierce is an Irish documentary photographer who began shooting Dublin in the ’80’s in black and white film.
