The artist presents Dreamland, an amusement park in Nara Prefecture, Japan, which has now disappeared. Dreamland opened in 1961 and operated until 2006. During its heyday, it was visited by 1.7 million people a year, but with the advent of Tokyo Disneyland, it began to decline and eventually closed due to operating deficits. After its closure, it was demolished in 2016 and left unattended for 10 years until it disappeared into the back alleys of history in 2017. Dreamland, which was called ‘Haikyo’ by the Japanese, is revived through the artist’s photos as a nostalgia for a faded childhood filled with fantasy and dreams.
