PhotoPoland is a project aimed at international audience, curators, gallery owners, employees of cultural institutions and organizers of photographic events all over the world, but most of all at all the people interested in becoming acquainted with the works of Polish photographers. Each edition of the project has a different form, adapted to the possibilities of its presentation. What remains constant is the effort to promote Polish photography and to make Polish artists known outside their country. Its first edition was organized in May 2007 as a series of international exhibitions of 7 selected Polish artists.

The main element of 2016’s edition is the publication presenting the portfolios of Diana Lelonek, Piotr Zbierski, Łukasz Filak, Adam Lach, Wiktoria Wojciechowska and the Sputnik Photos collective. The selection of artists for the publication was preceded by nominations awarded by Polish curators, gallery owners, writers specializing in photography and representatives of photographic festivals and institutions. The final six were selected from among the nominees by the jury, comprising Erik Kessels, Sayaka Takashi, Lars Willumeit, Simon Karlstetter and Peggy Sue Amison.

About the Publisher
Fotofestiwal was established in 2001 as one of the first photography events in Poland. It was a spontaneous initiative of students and lecturers of the Sociology Department. Since then, photography and ways of organizing cultural events have transformed. The same has been true for Fotofestiwal itself – we have a different perspective towards the program, we work differently, our viewer’s needs have changed. Still, Fotofestiwal remains a space for presenting various forms and types of photography, a forum for discussion about art and society, a motivation to search for alternative methods of discussing and exhibiting photography. But first of all, invariably, it is a place where people meet.
