This book is a catalogue for an exhibition of the same name which took place in collaboration between University of Gothenburg, the Gothenburg Museum of Art and the Hasselblad Foundation. From black and white political protest images to large format conceptual color photography in an extensive exhibition, this was the first time a comprehensive approach was taken to Sweden’s photographic history during the period 1970-2000 in the form of an exhibition, including 50 photographers from different generations.
An eventful period for exploration, this show detailed the clear tendencies in the development of the Swedish photographic landscape from politically marked documentary photography to photography’s prominent role in contemporary art and mass culture today. The exhibition filled a significant gap in the understanding of photography’s recent history.
