CARBON merges the aesthetics of space exploration and scientific imaging with the interpretation of abstract symbols. I’m interested in extremophiles, the origins of life on earth, and what forms sentience might assume elsewhere in the universe. Would we recognise it hovering in front of us? What began with a camera-less method I discovered while experimenting with photograms, and drawing, has grown into immersive environments including large stills, video, multi-point sound and inter-active sculptures. Fifteen years after its inception CARBON is now available in book form.

About the Artist
Charles Lindsay is a conceptual artist-adventurer whose work synthesises ideas about time, technology, eco-systems and semiotics. Lindsay creates immersive environments, sound installations, sculptures built from salvaged aerospace and bio-tech equipment. His eighth book of photographs “Recipes for the Mind” is now available from Terranova / MIT Press, with a parallel podcast and lecture series gearing up. FIELD STATION 4 is now live at the Marianna Kistler Beach Museum of Art, Kansas State University, through October, 2020.

About the Publisher
Founded in 2013, Minor Matters is a collaborative publishing platform, making books through the engagement of our international audience. We highlight underrepresented voices in contemporary art, and preserve our present for the future through publishing their work. At Minor Matters, we recognize that significant art and ideas may stay on the fringes without the support of a community. Like us. With you. Everyone who buys our books in pre-sales is listed as a co-publisher—we’re making books together.
