Arriving Somewhere is a project about a small Island called Cruit which is situated off the coast of Co. Donegal Ireland.
‘After finding myself back to this place after many years, I discovered that the landscape has been altered due to coastal erosion and human interaction, by abusing the land through discarding waste.
New developments on housing have also been a part of this transformation. Cruit is going through a lot of aesthetic change, development and abandonment; I had revisited this once known childhood place to observe and absorb what has changed since I was a child.
Previously used by my family, friends and strangers this area is where we used to go on holiday through the year to our semi-permanent caravan.
Because of my connection to the landscape and its past this is an intimate body of work, which is achieved through placing myself as an observer in various situations, the figures in the photographs are all in their own way interacting with the landscape, these people are snippets from my own personal memory, interacting with the landscape in which I and my family used to do also. My aims were to make pictures that will forever hold the current state of the Island into an everlasting stasis, to allow the preservation of this space in a form of visual memory.’
