Yunmi’s Album is a father’s photographic documentation of his daughter’s life from the cradle, in 1964, until her wedding day, in 1989. This photobook, spanning over 20 years of the subject’s life, invites us to feel the love of a father for his daughter through the medium of photography.

About the Artist
Joen Mong Gag was a photographer who beautifully documented the history of Korean middle class families in the late 20th century. From the 1960s to the 1980s, when the entire nation was dedicated to economic development, the artist and father of three children was faced solely with scenes of home and the workplace. The photograph fanatic he was, Joen clicked his camera shutter to document quotidian events as if keeping a journal. From experimental projects with his photographer associates upon graduating from university, to his life in the Netherlands as a student, to the construction of Gyeongbu Expressway, to Yunmi’s House and My Wife, Joen’s photographs accumulated over time and are a substantial and steadfast archive that documents modern Korean history. This book features Joen’s major works from the late 1950s to 1990s and includes commentary from his wife, Lee Mungwang. Culture journalist Jeong Jaesook’s auteur theory captures Joen Mong Gag’s life and artistic world from a heartwarming perspective.
