Claridge’s photo book documents his time spent at the docklands complex with the staff and volunteers that run the popular visitor attraction. The book contains twenty of John’s trademark black and white photographs including shots of the steam locos, the workshops and portraits of staff members. The book is a must for steam fans, evoking memories of a bygone era and reminding us of how important it is to preserve our railway heritage for future generations to experience and enjoy.

John Claridge was born in London in 1944. He began taking pictures at age eight with a plastic camera won at a local carnival. He left school at 15 for a position in the photography department at McCann-Erickson and became an assistant to David Montgomery. He remained there two years, drawing inspiration from the legendary designer, Robert Brownjohn, among others. In 1963, he opened a studio near St. Paul’s Cathedral and specialized in magazines and advertising. He still shoots for several major companies.
