For most of Veškrna’s childhood, he lived in blocks of flats. Claustrophobic and unpleasant room between the walls kept him dreaming about the desire for space, in body and mind. Veškrna was fascinated by flying. His grandfather would give him magazines about them. He worked as an airplane mechanic when he was younger, but Veškrna never had the opportunity to ask him more about it. Vojtěch Veškrna chose the topic of flying and airplanes for his master’s studies project, as it was something he was always interested in and a subject close to his heart. He began to ask his grandpa about his experience on the base and hr even made the first pictures on the same airbase he worked. The project soon developed from the early stages of reportage to something more calm and timeless. Veškrna couldn’t perfectly show the life on the base, but he could show his passion. He started to capture the things he imagined when he was younger. The power of the airplane and the freedom that comes with it.
