Illustrated People is the manifestation in book form of a performance by Thomas Mailaender, in which he applied original negatives selected from the Archive of Modern Conflict’s collection to the skin of models and projected a powerful UV lamp over them, thus revealing a fleeting image on the skin’s surface. Mailaender then photographed each of his models before exposure to daylight caused the images to disappear. The book comprises the resulting shots interpreted with a series of archive images from the AMC collection.

About the Publisher
The Archive of Modern Conflict is an organisation dedicated to the collection and preservation of vernacular photographs, objects, artefacts, curiosities, and ephemera.
